Loami, IL – Steven Lambert, mayor of Loami, volunteer firefighter, father, and longtime advocate for rural communities, has officially launched his campaign as an independent candidate for Illinois State Senate in District 54.
“Central Illinois is filled with hardworking families, small business owners, first responders, and educators who are doing their best, but too often, we’ve been let down by a political system more focused on party loyalty than real results,” Lambert said. “I’m running as an independent because I believe we need authentic, practical leadership that puts people over politics.”
As mayor of Loami, Lambert has delivered balanced budgets, invested in public safety, supported law enforcement, and modernized local government operations, all while maintaining a cooperative, nonpartisan approach. He is also a trained volunteer firefighter and a proud father of a young daughter attending public school in the district.
Before entering public service, Lambert spent more than a decade working in higher education, helping students access college, trade programs, and veterans’ benefits. He holds a doctorate in education leadership, along with degrees in politics and public administration.
Lambert’s campaign will focus on restoring affordability, supporting small businesses, expanding access to healthcare and workforce training, and advocating for strong, safe communities across the district’s rural towns and villages.
“People are tired of gridlock, tired of extremes, and tired of being ignored just because they live in a small town,” Lambert said. “I’m not running to play political games. I’m running to work for the people who call this district home and to make it a place more people want to move to, not leave.”
Lambert’s listening tour will kick off on Wednesday, August 6th at 6:00 p.m. at the Townhall Pub in Loami, where he will meet with residents, listen to their concerns and ideas, and begin a districtwide conversation about the future of Central Illinois.
Lambert will be traveling the district meeting with voters, listening to concerns and ideas, and building a grassroots campaign powered by service, common sense, and community.
